It is now time to express yourself! Go and vote

Dear members and colleagues,

It is now the time for you the members to talk and decide who you want as your leaders for local 2002.

Due to my involvement in the present bargaining with Air Canada, I had a very short time to campaign. I was still able to talked and exchanged with thousands of our members across the country about my vision of the financial secretary’s role. I am very thankful for such positive feedback I have received from all of you.

I like to believe that my continuous involvement in the union over the past 21 years and my experience as financial secretary will make a difference at the end of the day.

I am very proud of what I have done for the members over the years and I believe the support I am getting across the country is the recognition of this hard work I have done.

In ending, I would like to ask people one more favour, you need to go to vote as this is your time to say who you want as leaders of YOUR union.

So please take the time to go vote until May 6, send in your mail ballots and also don’t forget to vote on May 2, for the government of our country.

In solidarity

Visit at Quebec city airport

As usual it is always a pleasure to meet and talk with the membership of Jazz and Air Canada units at Québec city airport, these members have been working side by side since 2005 and have shown great respect for each other even when facing challenging time. The fact of the matter is that the leadership theredecided to join and show solidarity against the employer. They have share district meeting and the officer of one unit have serviced the member of the other unit without making any difference.

CAW Biography: Quebec Council President

Marcel Rondeau began his career in the airline industry in 1986, and his involvement in the labour movement in 1988, when he joined Canadian International. He participated in the 1990 campaign to merge with the CAW, which led to the creation of Local 1990, where he was then elected shop steward.

His passion for fighting for workers' rights and improved working conditions really came to the fore following his participation in the CAW's Family Education program in Port Elgin in 1995. This event marked the start of an intense and wholehearted commitment to the labour movement that continues to this day.

In fall 1996, he was elected Regional Vice-President of his local union.

Following the difficult merger of former locals 2213 (Air Canada) and 1990 (Canadian International) in 2002, Marcel succeeded in uniting the members of the recently merged local unions around the shared goal of maintaining and improving their working conditions. His qualities as a leader and relentless worker were quickly recognized, and, in the fall of 2002, led him to be elected President of District 400 of Local 2002, a position he held until his election in May 2005 to the Eastern Region Bargaining Committee. He continues to serve on this committee today, representing over 1,200 members across Quebec.

Marcel has also been a Discussion Leader for CAW education programs since 1998.

Marcel was elected as a delegate to the Quebec Council in April 1997. In fall of the same year, he was elected to the Quebec Council's Resolutions Committee. Since then, he has served on the Executive Board of the Quebec Council as Trustee and Financial Secretary, and, in November 2005, after three months as interim president, he was elected by acclamation to the office of President of the Quebec Council, a position he held until his temporary appointment as a CAW National Representative in February 2007.

Upon returning to his workplace in the fall of 2007, Marcel decided to run for re-election to the position of President of the Quebec Council. He was re-elected convincingly on November 25, 2007.

Marcel lives in Montreal with his wife Nancy and their two children, Ève and Laurent.

Vote Marcel Rondeau, Financial Secretary for CAW Local 2002

Dear members and colleagues,

The Financial Secretary assumes one of the most important elected positions of the Local. It is imperative that the person occupying this position has the required capacity and knowledge to properly fulfill the duties.

For the past 21 years, I have been privileged to occupy several significant positions in our union; whether at the Local level as District Vice President, Regional Vice President, District Chairperson or as a member of the Bargaining Committee at Air Canada for the past six years.

At the national level, thanks to my leadership, competencies and rallying skills, I was elected to represent 22,000 members as Financial Secretary of the CAW Quebec Council for a three-year term before being elected for a third consecutive term as President.

I also occupy a seat on the National Executive Board of CAW-Canada, as well as being a member of the Board of Directors of the CAW Social Justice Fund.

My 21 years of experience has given me the expertise necessary to assume the duties of the position of Financial Secretary and to assist our leaders in each of our local units.

I respectfully request your support.

In solidarity,
Marcel Rondeau
